Exactly what happens when your 30-day Staykey trial ends — when you're charged, how to cancel before you're charged, and what stays running if you continue.
Staykey includes a 30-day free trial. You enter payment details when you sign up, but you are not charged until the trial ends. This article covers exactly what happens at the end of day 30, how to cancel before you're charged, and what happens if you keep going.
The charge happens at the same hour on day 30 that you signed up on day 0. If you signed up at 8:42 p.m. on March 1, you'll be charged at approximately 8:42 p.m. on March 31. We send an email receipt immediately after.
The amount charged is calculated by the plan you selected during sign-up times the number of properties currently in your account:
If you added or removed properties during the trial, the charge reflects your current property count at the moment of billing.
You can cancel at any time during the trial — including on day 29 at 11 p.m.
Your card will not be charged. You'll keep full access to Staykey through the end of your trial period, then your account will convert to a read-only state.
If you change your mind before the trial ends, you can reactivate in the same Billing screen without starting over.
If your trial ends without converting to paid, your account becomes read-only. That means:
This is intentional — we don't want canceling a trial to lock guests out of doors or break an in-progress stay.
If you don't cancel, the transition is deliberately boring:
If you signed up for ProHost but want to downgrade to Host before the charge:
The change takes effect at the next billing cycle. If done during the trial, your trial continues at no cost, and your first charge at day 30 is for the new plan.
Same flow in reverse to upgrade.
We don't issue refunds for partial months, but we're pragmatic about genuine edge cases — if Staykey charged you after you thought you'd canceled, or if there's a technical issue with the charge, contact support and we'll make it right.
We built the trial this way on purpose: a real card, real billing, real cancellation flow. Teams that sign up "just to try it" and never use it pay nothing. Teams that sign up and actually connect a property convert at a much higher rate, which is what we want — people using the product, not people exploring a zero-friction demo that disappears the moment they get serious.
If you're on the fence at day 28, contact support and we'll either help you get your setup working or extend your trial by a few days.
