Integrations

Works with the tools you already use.

Staykey is a thin layer on top of your booking channel and your own smart-home hub. Bring what you already have — we meet you where you are, and we don't lock you in.

Booking channels

Where your reservations come from.

Connect the sites guests already book on. Staykey imports reservations and sends a single guest link back through the same thread.

Airbnb

Calendar import + scheduled messages

Import reservations from your Airbnb calendar, then send your Staykey link out through Airbnb's own scheduled messages.

  • Import via iCal feed or email forwarding
  • Works with Airbnb's scheduled messages and quick replies
  • Reservation code auto-fills into every guest link
Automate your Airbnb messages

VRBO

Calendar import + scheduled messages

Same pattern as Airbnb: import reservations, then drop your Staykey link into VRBO's scheduled messages.

  • Import via iCal feed or email forwarding
  • Paste your Staykey link into VRBO scheduled messages once per listing
  • Handles reschedules, cancellations, and calendar blocks

Direct bookings

Your site, a PMS, or a spreadsheet

Create the stay in Staykey directly — same link, same automated access as the big channels.

  • Create a stay in one form
  • Same automated codes and guest portal
  • Works for long-term and mid-term rentals

Your smart-home hub

Home Assistant is where your devices live.

Staykey sits on top of a hub you control. You keep ownership of your devices, automations, and data — we handle the guest-access layer.

The only hub we support today

Home Assistant

Our only smart-home integration — and a deliberate one. Everything runs local-first on hardware you own. You keep your devices, your automations, and your data.

  • Staykey plugin (recommended) — install via HACS, secure outbound connection, no public URL required
  • Direct REST connection as a fallback — pair with Nabu Casa or Tailscale Funnel for remote access

Device protocols

How your devices actually talk.

Here's what we run on our own properties — and when a different radio makes more sense.

Recommended for locks

Z-Wave

The workhorse for rentals

Local mesh network, low interference, rock-solid lock support. This is what we install on our own properties.

Zigbee

Great for sensors and lights

Similar to Z-Wave but on 2.4 GHz. Huge device selection — especially for bulbs, motion sensors, and contact sensors.

New

Matter

Newly viable for STR locks

The new cross-ecosystem standard. Home Assistant recently added passcode support for Matter locks — now a real option for hosts.

Wi-Fi

Easy, but cloud-dependent

Works fine if your router is reliable and the device's cloud stays up. We prefer mesh protocols for locks, but Wi-Fi has its place (especially thermostats).

Device categories

What Staykey can actually control.

If Home Assistant sees it, Staykey can usually surface it. Here's what hosts automate most often.

Smart locks

e.g. Yale, Schlage, August, Kwikset, Ultraloq, Aqara

Thermostats

e.g. Ecobee, Nest, Honeywell, Zen, Sensi, Mysa

Garage doors & gates

e.g. Meross, Ratgdo, myQ (via HA), Chamberlain

Lights & switches

e.g. Hue, Lutron Caséta, Inovelli, Zooz

Honest list

What we don't integrate with.

We'd rather tell you up front than surprise you mid-setup.

  • SmartThings

Not supported today. Staykey is built on Home Assistant — that's where we put our reliability, device-compatibility, and local-control work. If SmartThings support would change your business, tell us.

  • Third-party PMS (Hospitable, Guesty, Hostfully, etc.)

No native integration yet. If your PMS exports an iCal feed, we can import reservations from it — but messages and pricing stay in the PMS.

  • Apple HomeKit (directly)

We don't talk to HomeKit directly, but almost every HomeKit-compatible device is also exposed through Home Assistant's HomeKit controller — so in practice, it works.

FAQ

Integration questions we get a lot.

Do I have to use Home Assistant to use Staykey?

Guest links, access codes, and booking import all work without any smart-home hub at all — so if you're just using Staykey to share check-in info, you don't need Home Assistant. To automate smart locks and other devices, though, you do need Home Assistant. It's the only smart-home platform Staykey integrates with today, and that's a deliberate choice — local control, open hardware, no vendor lock-in.

Do I need to rebuild my existing Home Assistant automations?

No. Staykey adds itself on top of your existing setup. We read the devices and entities you already have and only fire automations that we own (access codes, climate setbacks between stays, etc.). Your scenes, dashboards, and custom automations keep working exactly as they do today.

Which smart locks actually work with Staykey?

Any lock that supports rotating user codes and is reachable from Home Assistant. In practice that means Z-Wave locks from Yale, Schlage, Kwikset, and August; most Zigbee locks; and Matter locks with passcode support. See our supported-smart-locks help article for the current list.

How does Staykey send the guest link through Airbnb and VRBO?

Both platforms have their own scheduled-message features. On Airbnb you build a quick-reply or scheduled message that includes the reservation confirmation-code shortcode, and Staykey's link fills in automatically for every booking. VRBO works the same way — you paste the Staykey link into a scheduled message once per listing, and every future reservation goes out with it. Guest communication stays on the thread the guest already booked on. We deliberately don't text guests ourselves.

What happens if my Home Assistant hub goes offline?

Locks continue to honor the codes that are already on them — that's the reliability argument for local mesh protocols in the first place. New check-ins and reservation changes pause until the hub reconnects, and Staykey alerts you the moment it can't reach the hub.
