What's a loose end?
A loose end is a cleaning that's past its date and nobody ever reported. Maybe the work got done and nobody tapped the button. Maybe it never happened. Either way, until it has a final status, it counts as $0 everywhere: on your Earnings page, in your client's billing window, and in what you're owed.
Two kinds of cleanings show up as loose ends:
- Not reported: the scheduled date has passed and the cleaning was never marked complete
- Not marked complete: a host's turnover that Staykey closed out after the reminders went unanswered. On the Loose Ends card it's tagged Unresolved. If you did clean it, report it now and it gets paid.
Where to find them
Loose ends appear in a Loose Ends card at the top of Today, above your day plan, oldest first. The card only shows up when you have something to resolve. The Today tab also shows a count badge.
What you see depends on your role:
- Crew members see the loose ends for their own crews, with a Report done button and an Other button on each one. No money is shown.
- Owners and managers see every loose end in the company in a table with the cleaning, scheduled date, crew, and what it's Worth, plus a Resolve button on each row and bulk reporting (below).
Past-dated cleanings that were never reported are also flagged Never reported on the Schedule, with a Resolve button.
Report one cleaning done
- Tap Report done (or Resolve)
- Under Was this cleaning done?, choose Yes — the work was done
- Check the Date done. It defaults to the scheduled date, so change it if the work happened another day. You can also set the time it was Finished.
- Tap Report done
If the cleaning has no scheduled date, you'll be asked to pick the day the work happened.
If the checklist wasn't finished
If the job's checklist has unchecked tasks or missing required photos, Staykey asks Finish without the full checklist? and shows what's missing. Pick a reason:
- Ran out of time
- Task didn't apply
- No supplies
- Forgot the photos
- Other
You can add a note in your own words. Before you submit, the sheet shows exactly what the host or client will see. Then tap Report done anyway.
If it didn't happen
Tap Other (or, on the sheet, look under No — set a different status) and pick one:
| Outcome |
What it means |
| Didn't happen |
Nobody cleaned it. Not billed. |
| Couldn't get in |
You were blocked at the door. |
| Cancelled by client |
It was called off before the visit. |
Then tap Set status. These outcomes are final, and none of them is billed.
Report a batch at once
Owners and managers can clear a backlog in one pass. On the Loose Ends card, tap Report N done to open the bulk sheet.
- Each cleaning is completed on its own scheduled date.
- Cleanings are grouped into Ready and Needs a reason. Any with checklist gaps need a reason (and an optional note) before they can go through.
- Any without a scheduled date need you to pick the day the work happened.
- The footer shows the total and how many billing windows it touches, so you know what you're about to move before you confirm.
You can report up to 50 cleanings at a time. There's no undo, so check the list before you confirm. If any can't be reported, they stay on the list with what went wrong.
What happens to billing
Reporting a cleaning done adds its amount to what you're owed:
- It lands in the right period. The cleaning bills in the window for the date the work happened, not the date you reported it.
- Closed windows still take it. If that window has already closed, the cleaning is added with a note ("added date, after this window closed"), and the window can't settle until the new amount is paid.
- Settled windows don't change. If that window is already settled, the cleaning carries forward into the client's current window, labeled "carried from period". Nothing you've already been paid for gets rewritten.
On Earnings, owners and managers also see a line showing how much money from unreported cleanings isn't counted yet, with a Review link back to Today.
What the host sees
For Staykey jobs:
- Reporting a cleaning done sends the host the same completion notification an on-time report would (if they've turned those on).
- The cleaning's details show a recap: Reported after the fact, or Completed with exceptions if tasks or photos were missing. It includes your reason and note and how many days after the visit it was reported.
- Cancelled by client follows the normal cancellation path, so the host is notified.
- Didn't happen and Couldn't get in don't send anyone a notification. The outcome is recorded on the job.
For private clients, the recap and your note stay on the job record.
